Every year in the fall, prior to Flu season, we mix up a batch of Whew! Juice. It’s name gives a hint of the experience, though nothing can really prepare one for it. There is a reason this is called WHEW! Juice … as in ‘Whew! Glad that’s over’. Yep! Another way to experience the feeling of Gratitude!

It’s become a Rite of Passage in the family — a sort of ‘I AM committed to healing myself’ AND a leap of Faith. The smell alone triggers the flight or flight mechanism, daring us to face our fears, swallow our pride and trust we will make it to the other side.

Whew! Juice is marvelous at curing/preventing the flu, cold or plain ‘ol lack of courage.

Here’s our family Recipe for whew juice! In-JOY!

Equal parts: Horseradish root, garlic, white onion, habanero pepper, ginger + Apple cider vinegar

Chop/shred all ingredients, place in glass jar, cover with apple cider vinegar, seal and store for 1.5 months. Best to make at new moon, and harvest at full Moon (6 weeks later). Strain pulp, and store liquid in a glass jar.

(No metal contact! This is vital as the acidity of this elixir will pull the metal into the mixture … been there, done that, lot a whole batch -grrr! This includes canning jar lids, too. We use a plastic baggie between the juice and the lid, just to be extra sure.)

So how to use this miracle juice? Take 1 Tbsp at first sign of throat tickle/sluggishness/flu, continue once or twice a day til you’re feeling tip-top and clear again … or anytime you wish to prove how courageous you are!

For children, simply place a drop in water, once an hour, every hour. ‘ Straight up’ is a bit much for their tender pallets.

*** Breath freshner optional, though highly recommended … ***
